The free version is great, but lacks some of the features of the paid version. I am generally not a fan of the subscription model, but on the other hand 40$/year don't break the bank. I used to use 3 or 4 different services to accomplish what I can do with one app now. I like that Fantastical is very well designed and easy to use, while giving you tons of features. Most ads pay publisher by the impression (or viewable impression). If the appointment has a link (e.g for Zoom or MS Teams etc.) joining the meeting is just one click away. Whether you click ads or not, blocking all ads is really damaging for content producers.

All proposed times are blocked on your calendar, until the meeting is finalized, making sure you don't double book. Colleagues reply to a poll what time works best for them. You can send out "Meeting Proposals" similar to doodle. You set up "Meeting Templates" according to your use case, e.g. Just send your client a link and let them chose a time that fits them and where you are available. You can let clients make appointments to your calendar ("Openings"), similar to calendly.

Apart from the natural language entry for appointments there are very well designed views (monthly, weekly and daily and the brand new quarterly views are available) and basic necessities (sync with calendar providers such as MS Outlook, Exchange, iCloud, Google Calendar etc.) there are lots of advanced features. I don't know another calendar app that is packed with functionality while being well designed.
